There are several players on the Forex and two of the most important ones are the Interbank Market and the Interbank brokers.

The Interbank market serves most of the commercial turnovers and the vast amounts that are involved in speculative trading. This market deals with large banks that trade in billions of dollars every day. Some of the trading activity can be done for corporate customers but the treasury rooms of these banks can also participate in large volume and amounts in trading. The bank dealers will, of course, profit well from these activities as well.

The Interbank market has steadily become more competitive through the years making the position of the equity traders stronger than those of the top Forex traders. Most of the trading that are made between banks themselves occurs electronically, via the Internet, which has had negative effects on the more traditional Forex brokers. Now, the Internet plays a larger role for the traders have seen the speed of information and action when using this system, faster than the traditional phone lines.

The increase in the use of the internet has made the business move faster and more efficient because information is dispersed faster and on real time. In fact, some brokers act within seconds after particular information had been released. This was not possible in the traditional method that the Forex brokers who used to handle most of the interbank trading.

In most trading rooms, there is still the traditional broker box. This is used to be where the traders and the brokers heard the market prices at the same time as it is released. However, with the speed of the Internet, and the fact that most brokers have their own laptops from which to monitor the prices, they no longer really use the broker box and instead act from wherever they are and make the electronic transactions.

In fact, most trading firms now only have small offices, no longer the large and imposing buildings of the traditional firms. There are now more online trading firms and online bookings that occur rather on the traditional method.
